Opening day at the Western Gypsy Gathering
Today was the official arrival day and opening ceremonies at the Western Gypsy Gathering in Casa Grande. Friends from our Boomer group, Jim and Betty Roughton, who are representing Medical Airlift Services here said that the first Escapees RV Club Escapades were held here years ago and were about this size! The Boomer Birds of a Feather Group, a subgroup of the Escapees was started right here with 17 people.
Alice and I got set up with help from George. Pic
tured are Kay and Joe Kennedy (Kay is author of Portable Writing and her latest book, Looking Back: Boomers Remember History from the ‘40s to the Present) dropping off her books at the RV Authors' Co-op booth when we were setting up.
A short while later, "Froggi" Donna stopped by and we finally met in person. She started RV Lifestyles, the ezine that Alice and I now publish and edit. Froggi's husband passed away shortly after Bill did and she is now out on the road as a solo. It was fun to meet! (Below: Jaimie, Froggi, Alice)
After all the thank you's and welcomes, Nick Russell asked me to join the panel of experts for the RV Quick Tips panel. Most of the questions were technical questions about tires, air brakes and towing. We did have a discussion on boondocking etiquette at Wal-Mart and a question about whether or not solos cou
ld find jobs working on the road.
At the drawing, George won a $10 gift certificate from a local restaurant, Barney's. We heard the food is good so will try it out while we are here.
Tomorrow the seminars start. Morning coffee and donuts starts at 8 a.m. and each night there are a number of activities. You can come in for just the day so if you can't make it for the whole rally, stop for a visit. You'll find Alice and me in the vendor area with the yellow RV Authors' Co-op sign. Stop and say hi! And, if possible, attend our seminar tomorrow: RVing from the Women's Perspective at 1:30. in the Quonset Hut.

It was so great to meet Jaimie finally and then top it off by being able to meet Alice and finally George. What great ladies!!!
